Crossflow - which alternator?

Perhaps this should be in Electrics forum, but still.....

I'm looking for a small alternator for fitment to my Crossflow. On trawling around the 'scrappies' I have seen a number of Denso ones that appear to fit the bill.

However, most of these are fitted to the left side of crank (when viewed from front (towards rear of car on front wheel drive cars)). Where as the crossflow is to the right - do I need to get an alternator that rotates in the correct direction?

What alternators have other people used
on their crossflows?

Cheers,
Andy

So that's 2 of us facing the same problem. Had thought I could mod the Pinto alternator to suit the xflow, but not possible.

So you reckon the small Japanese type would fit?

Work-in-Progress: Changed to Zetec + T9. Still trying!!

Dick & Ray
if you think about it you will realise that weither mounted on one side or the other the alternator will still turn in the same direction , any way alternators are as a rule not direction sensative as the name sugests they produce ALTERNATING (AC) CURRENT WHICH IS THEN RECTAFIED TO DIRECT CURRENT(DC) . the important thing is to make sure that the alternator you get has an internal voltage regulator or that you get the regulator that matches.I hope this helps
BEST WISHES

Doh!, yes Iain, should have done thy ye olde - put brain in gear before typing.

The reason I'm after another one is due to limit space, the original Lucas one I have is rather large. Therefore looking to find one as small a possible and fabricate a bracket.

In that case try looking at a Dihatsu Charade ? I've heard of them being used by others for similar reason on pinto's

Hi Andy ,
we all need another viewpoint to see the obvious, but that is what these fourms are all about
