zetec cambelt kit.

I bought a cambelt kit for my blacktop zetec.

Ordered from an online parts specialist and put the car as a Focus 2002.

What came back has 3 idler pulleys instead of the two I have (one of which is the tension adjuster) and they are slightly different diameters.

My suspicion is they have given me one for the silver top zetec instead. (They sent me part number 349770305)

Can I just use the belt and two of the pulleys or is the blacktop one completely different??

So annoyed.

Just looked back at my receipt:

349770305 SKF Timing Belt Kit Ford Focus 2.0 2002 £73.20

From carpartsforless. Clearly says on their website for a Ford focus 2002 2.0. Looking up the part number from SKF it is clearly for a -99 zetec. I trusted their competence enough not to check the part number.

Doh. now the hassle of sending it back to them and getting them to understand their faux pas.

Ho hum, then off to the garage after a nice glass of wine to take off the old belt anyway and out I get my trusty Laser 3096 acme timing tool (too lazy to make my own) bought from amazon to fit Focus and Mondeo zetecs. You've guessed it. When reading the instructions with my trusty £2 supermarket glasses that seem to fit like a dream and don't need sending back to anyone, it is clear that unlike the glowing Amazon description of it fitting any Zetec, it is only for the silver top.

Never mind I thought, i'll ft ebay item number 251234627070 which is a waterpump for a FORD FOCUS MK1 WATER PUMP 1999-2005 1.6 1.8 2.0 16V ZETEC... (251234627070). God knows what engine this one is for but it has the wrong number of bolt holes and in the wrong positions.

I think I will go back inside and finish the bottle.

There were different Blacktops, one had an extra idler down by the crankshaft pulley, and the belts are different lengths.

IIRC the earlier blacktops had the extra idler, changover being 99-2000 rings a bell....

Ooops - having a bad night of it?
I often find I suddenly realise I've done something wrong when I'm stood in the shower 20 minutes after finishing for the night...
