I was told by Dunnel to use the Ford own brand zetec oil, cheap and does the job just as well as anything else.

I've used Castrol GTX and Shell Helix fully synthetic 5w30. There are probably cheaper oils but any synthetic with right letters on the back
with do the job.
I've heard of people using 10w40 and getting sticking valves and allsorts.

Halfords do one also -- I use it as a winter oil grade in Rover K engines.

Zetecs require an A1/B1 (fuel economy spec) oil that also meets Ford spec 913A / 913B. All A1/B1's in the UK are generally made for Ford PAG and
therefore tend to be 5W-30 oils that meet the above Ford specs.
5W-30 A1/B1 oils tend to be semi-synthetic (in order to pass the quality requirement of the Ford spec) and are quite easily available at most major
retailers.
if you don't fail, you aren't trying hard enough.

I have a fiesta zetec-s and always use the ford super 5/30 semi. Costs me about 7 quid for 5 litres from ford. I put castrol gtx magnatec 5/30 in it
and it was as noisey as hell when it was cold. Drained it after 50 odd miles. Horrible stuff. Ford is best!!!!

Thanks for this lads, I wouldn't have known about the Ford oil and would have (incorrectly) assumed it was expensive. Cheers
P.S. aren't forums great!

yes, all types of 5W-30 oil will mix no problem. Even better if they meet Ford spec 913B as this guarantees they meet fairly stringent quality
standards (more stringent than A1/B1 anyway).
if you don't fail, you aren't trying hard enough.
