Fast road Pinto camshaft fitting
Hi all
Thinking of fitting a fast road cam in my 2ltr Pinto, do I have to change all of the springs and followers or can I get away with just buying a fast
road cam Piper or Kent and use the std springs etc

New followers are a must
Springs depends on cam specification but IMHO the Ford standard ones will be old and weak
You should replace valve stem oil seals
There is no such thing as a free lunch
Do it once, do it properly
As you have asked this question I assume you have not read much about cams
Let us know what your thoughts are in which cam you are considering and I will guide you on what is needed on to get the best out of your choice

You should always fit new lifters with a new cam, if you reuse old ones it can kill the cam
Springs will depend on the profile of the cam, but new ones are a good idea anyway
my piper 285 kit came with springs and followers so no guessing which ones to use

I fitted Kent fast road cam and that came with springs, followers and a spray bar.

Nothing's simple as springs have a fitted length, my Kent FR32 uses single springs and fitted straight out of the box
The RL31 cam uses double springs and needed Spring seats cutting deeper and valve stem guid boss cutting thinner
I then had to measure fitted Spring height and use shims under the strings to get correct height

Hi guys
Thanks for the replies, I was thinking of the FR32 cam, I am running 40mm bike carbs. a mate of mine has a HT1 cam and followers brand new not sure
what the requirements for that would be

http://www.kentcams.com/documents/downloads/Kent%20Cams%20catalogue%202016(7).pdf
says it needs double valve springs... same ones as the RL31
there is a big difference between a HT1 and an FR32 though...
~310° duration vs ~285°
~12mm lift vs 11.5mm
and according to there figures the power doesn't come in till ~3000rpm vs 2500rpm
