Jaguar S Type V6 engine question

Thinking about alternative modern engines for my Scimitar..

The Jaguar S Type looks promising, but can anyone tell me what the Protuberance on the front of the sump for? Can it be replaced with a transverse x type sump to remove it??

I used a X-type sump and pick up tube. Up to 254BHP at the moment, going to see Jools on Sunday morning to finalise the VVT
Torque starts at 215ftlb at 2000rpm
The weird sump frontage was to add volume, could be cut off or use X-type sump.
The S-type volume was 6.5litres, the X-type is around 5 litres on my engine. I think more oil was used to extend the service intervals.

Thanks both, will keep an eye open for an engine at a reasonable price....

Took the Porsche out of hibernation today, started first touch, Jool’s mapping seems to be pretty spot on...

Keep your eye on complete S-Types on Ebay,I won one couple weeks ago for £270!
Drove it home just over 100miles so I know the engine is good to go straight into my car

I sold my 2001 S-Type, with 85000miles on the clock for £350. I paid £300 for the engine and gearbox for the MK
Purchased before I bought the S-Type.

The st220 sump is more conventional, no sticky out bits and rear bowl. They take just shy of 6L of oil. I'd expect the sump and oil pick up to suit would be interchangeable with the Jag version of the engine.

Have you added any baffles etc into the x-type sump, seeing as its designed for a transverse engine?

Not a lot of difference, the X-Type is deeper where the pick up sits, and has a windage tray. So no, no mods
