Rolling road report
Just had my pinto set up on rolling road.
Got these figures:
4500 rpm 112 BHP
5000 rpm 130 BHP
5500 rpm 147 BHP
6000 rpm 145 BHP
6500 rpm 142 BHP
measured at the wheels in 4th gear
quite pleased
car goes really well now too
I was allowed to go up the road a bit before paying - couldn't get the silly grin off my face! made paying a lot easier
Cheers

What spec have you got (before anyone starts, the engine , not your bifocals!)
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

140 odd hp at the wheels is extemely good for that engine spec! Those figures were at the wheels and not after knowcking off the rolling losses
weren't they?
If they were "pre rolling loss subtraction" then you have around 165-170 hp flywheel which is VERY good!

Well I did bolt it together, but the gas flowing and machining was done by a local guy who is quite talented it seems!
He says that there may well be a bit more in it if I were to go for a hotter cam, but I still want to be able to potter around in it in the summer so
I think I'll leave it as it is for now.
well I think I might be fitting a rev limiter!

Yes, I would!
Was the flywheel dowelled to the crank? I presume it's a std 6 bolt flywheel? If so, this is usually the weakest spot on a pinto, I have lost a
flywheel before when I missed a gearchange with no limiter (well, my brother was driving at the time!) not much damage done by some fluke the flywheel
stayed on the end of the crank, but I wouldn't want to do it again!
Best to run a limiter, and keep it to no more than 7000 rpm really, if you have ARP flywheel bolts, or 6500 if not, I think.

Ah well no it isn't dowelled, that kinda concerns me a bit.......
I was thinking of limiting it to 6500 with a soft cut a bit below this till the engine is out next, also a beefier clutch would be on the shopping
list.
Problem is I didn't build it for hillclimbing - this has happened afterwards!
It's a bit like "if I was going there I wouldn't set off from here" if you know what I mean
Thanks for your interest BTW
Cheers

Limited to 6500 the flywheel will be fine, especially if you lightened it.
