Pinto camshaft pulley

Hi all- Ive had my cylinder head planed by 1.5mm now ive put the engine back together Ive found that the timing pulleys do not line up with the timing marks spot on is it possilbe to modify the original pulley and using an offset pulley key or do I have to spend sixty to seventy pounds on an adjustable pulley? I was hoping not to have to spend any money and Im a greedy sod and my wife wont let me - Jacko

Using offset keys is normal practice on crossflow engines , dont know if any are made for the pinto engine. might be worth checking something like Ford 1.8 diesel camshaft gear which has a certain amount of vernier like adjustment. If it fits the pinto cam and lines up with the crank pulley it could be a locost solution?, again I don't know if it will fit . Rusty

Failing an offset key, Dave Andrews solution was as follows, I think it may have been on his site at one time. It involves filling carefully the leading edge of the the cam pulley key slot and putting a shim inbehind the key. The cam needs to be advanced to correct it. The calculations are quite invoved but if you divide the amount you have skimmed from the head by 4 this is the thickness of the shim you need to add and hence the amount you need to remove from the pulley. If you muck it up there are 2 pulleys on every pinto in the scrappies.

I think I have a spare pulley if you b***s it up.

I also have a FR31 Cam and followers with less than 1000 miles on if you are interested.
