I think Hicost (I think thats his name) has over 300hp with a Cossie engine.
Thats gotta be insane in one of these cars.
BTW, I noticed your from Red Deer! I use to live there for 14 years, now I'm in Calgary. Small world!
Best thing to do for a build....

As bhp is a figure of 'interest' and seemingly jumped upon by most "lad mag's" I think a more relevant question should
be asked.
Who has the most bhp/tonne?
Maybe the order will change then...

I think both are relevant.. BHP is, together with aerodynamics, responsible for the top speed you will get.. BHP / ton would be responsible for the
0-60 performance of the car.
I agree that Sevens are not meant for very high speeds on the road and the straights in a track are not so you can go very fast, but top speed is
still of interest..
I have a BEC with fantastic performance but, if could get similar weight distribution with a CEC, with similar BHP / ton at a comparable cost, I would
switch to CEC.. just because of the BHP figure
Cheers,
Alex

I doubt a 1.3l rx7 engine would weigh much more than a bike enigne.

Forget BHP, torque is what you want to know about...
BHP is just a derivative of torque anyway, torque will give you a good idea of the acceleration you will expect from the car.
An example: most diesel cars will accelerate much faster than a petrol car. A diesel engine has poor horse power compared to the petrol car, but has
bags more torque, and so will out acclerate it easily.

Oh no, not that old torque chestnut againnnnnn!
Torque's only any good in the real world if you've got revs too, so you can gear the car much lower without limiting top speed in the
gears, and torque & revs relates directly to horsepower!
Its torque at the wheels that is relevent to acceleration, nothing to do with torque at the flywheel, otherwise how would a blade BEC with 60lbft at
the flywheel accelerate to 60 in 4 seconds, and how come my TDi Bora with 300lbft torque doesnt out accelerate a petrol car with only just over half
that?

No thanks, bike engines are for puffs!!!!! lol
Its a car so will be sticking with car engine! In any case more power will be no use for me - my driving skills are poor at the mo, thats why im
building a se7en so i can take it to track and learn properly.
BHP, torque....... mmmm ive eard the theory but its the driver that makes it all work. I bet there are a few 90bhp crossflows that are quicker than
150bhp motors in the right hands. Ill settle for good set up first and up power as skills permit. There no point having 180bhp busa in a hedge!!

He says we're puffs (as in the Honey Monster variety?) for having bike engines, then in the very next sentence says "In any case more
power will be no use for me - my driving skills are poor at the mo"

It's not been dino'd yet but I have a S2000 F20C1 Engine with a Comptech Supercharger AEM ECU and DrySump. Power should be 380+ bhp and
260lbs.

Yep, its planned to be AWD, but the chassis and body are still very much in the design stage - I cannot really fit the drivetrain into a 7 style body,
so it will be more full bodied.
Just out of interest, final design weight is to be less than 800Kg, which I am currently well within. This should give a power/weight ratio of around
900bhp/tonne (well currently anyway)

My engine should make 270 bhp @1bar.
I am aiming for a reasonable build weight of 580kg.
That gives me 465.5 bhp per ton.
All I know is that using the figures in Evo I have a better power to weight ratio than a Rarri F40!
Should make for some lively performance.
Mates have already started refering to the car as "Dougs ditch finder"

Actually James (hicost) has over 400 bhp and yes, it's awesome!!
Silex, I'd be well inerested to see some photos of the beast. Got a chassis started yet? The skyline 4x4 system is pretty much the same as the
ford that I'm using, only fatter - it'll fit!
I'll have about 200bhp initially and about 300 when I strap on the two baby garrett t2s i have picked up Weight about 670kg with the 4wd.
Woo hoo!
****
And yeah - what chris said! Comparing engine torque figures is utterly irrelevant unless they operate at the same speeds and are therefore geared the
same. Torque at the wheels is whats important which is better described by power since cars are generally geared to achieve similar speeds in each
gear whatever the engine is doing. Making your 150bhp with a diesel running at 4000rpm is no different really to making it with a bike engine at
12000rpm! The diesel car, with probably three times the torque at the flywheel does not accelerate three times as quick!

should be sitting around 225hp and 300tq as I have not done any porting on the head. Unfortunately I found I have too much sideplay in the T3 so it
may be time to rebuild the turbo or replace it with a holset hy-35 If thats the case then another hundred hp and tq is no big addition. Car should
be sitting at 1500lbs or so.

Thanks

I've seen one of those installed in a Westie....looked totally lost in the engine bay....you could almost fit 2 in there.
