Painting a rusty block

Hello,

I have a slightly rusty XR4i engine which I want to paint before it goes into the car, but to be honest I cannot be bothered removing the surface rust and old paint etc. I have seen paint designed to go striaght onto rust, will this work on a block or will it start to melt when the engine reaches working temp.

Anyone who has done this before let me know, cheers.

Hammerite direct to rust may work. Should be ok at temperature considering household gloss normally is!
