air box hose

Hi all

I'm planning on making an airbox and ducting air to it from infront of the radiator, i've been offered some 2.5" hose to use for the ducting, will this be big enough for a 2.0 pinto with twin 45's?

It sounds big enough. Should be ok with a funnel at the start etc. Will it get you some more power? Any sketches to show what you are thinking of?

I would have thought that 2.5 in dia pipe would be restrictive when used with twin 45s, also the longer the pipe the more restictive it's likely to be. Just my opinion though. If the car is up and running try fitting the pipe temporarily and road testing to see results?

Hi Guys

Hose only needs to be about 2' long, it will have a cone filter at the front

Not really trying to gain power, but the car does feel sluggish when hot

I'm hoping to get the air box vac formed, and will fit over the trumpets like a panel filter

Adrian,

I have been thinking of doing exactly the same. Any chance of getting more than one made?

Cheers

Not really sure its big enough and here's my line of thinking why not (roughly)
Area of 2.5 inch pipe is 4.9inch sqaure
Area of 4 weber venturis say 1 1/4 dia is also 4.9 inch square.
So its pretty evenly balanced not taking into account any possible ram air effect of forward motion.
I would look for a 4 inch reinforced tubing from the likes of an eberspacher space heater if I was you.
Your idea is sound though as cold air will give you more power than hot air ( something to do with density )

Food for thought/Devils advocate...

Even though the airbox may be covering 4 Weber trumpets, they will all be taking turns to have a gulp of air, the carbs do not all 'suck' at the same time!

Argueably, the inlet pipe would only have to be the same, or slightly bigger than one carb intake!

Dont just build it.....make it!

Hi Graham

I'm hoping to get one made as a favour, but if it works i should be able to get more done cheaply

I did think about the area of the webers, but they dont all suck together, i've also looked at my tin top, a 1.8 vectra, the hose from the air filter is about 2.25" ID.

The max hose i can fit into the air filter is 3.5", so that may be the best bet ?
