SR20DE/SR20DET
Hi people, this is my first post, so be gental....
I'm exploring the different engine options at the moment, and have thoughts of either a SR20DE or SR20DET. I was wondering if anyone has had any
experiance in either of these engines in a locost, possible pitfalls etc. Also how well it fits in the "standard" plans.
Any input would be greatly apreciated.
I live in Nelson, New Zealand, so both engines are readily available.

Sorry about that, didn't realise there was someone else who used the nick actively on the list. It is a name I normally go by. Always time for a
change though
So once again, any feed back would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

I can't really comment on the sr but I saw a 7 type with a ca18det in it at a show and it (and gearbox) had replaced a pinto. There about the
same size so it should fit. The hardest bit would be the electrics (easy if you've got a complete donor) , the i/c pipe work and coupling up a
side exhaust to the turbo down pipe.Sump would probably need shallowing too.

The electronics won't be too hard, as I will most likely be using an aftermarket computer, which I've already done to one car (1990 Honda
Prelude, 2.0lt turbo)
I'm not sure if I want to go down the turbo path though. Still a bit undecided on that one.

They are physically bigger than the CA18DET but not much bigger than a Zetec so I would think you would get one in.
Before committing to one though measure height up and be prepared to modify chassis dimensions accordingly.
We tend to think of them as Nissan Primera engines and like most jap stuff do good miles without too much bother. Do you have a rwd gearbox available
to you in NZ that will fit the engine?
Best of luck with it.

The engine will come out of a Nissan 200sx (commonly known here as a silvia). Which are rwd. This is one of the reasons for thinking about this engine
because of the availability of them here. The Ford Zetec engines aren't as available.
