Newbie - Engine question
Hi, i am thinking about building a locost to possibly race in the 750mc championship. i states that you can use 1300GT crossflow, i have seen a few
1300 crossflows but nothing mentions the GT, they have all mentioned the '711 block' are all the 1300's the same ??
Thanks in advance
Lee

Hi Lee
The main difference between the two is the cam and the carb. For the locost championship you have to use the specified kent cam anyway, and everybody
runs the twin choke weber carb, that was found on the GT engine.
If you are looking at building up an engine any 711M 1300 crossflow will do, although you may have to buy the weber carb and inlet manifold, if you
don't get the GT engine.
Hope that helps for a start.

All 1300 basically are no matter what anyone tells you :-) - the 1600GT head has slightly bigger valves but not the 1300. The only difference between
the 1300 and the 1300GT was that the GT had a twin choke weber fitted.
There were I think low compression 1300s as well but that was just different pistons everything else was the same - and you'd be getting new
pistons anyway when you have it rebored.
Oh yeah and the cam as mentioned above - but again you'd have to get a new locost racing stamped one from Kent anyway.

great stuff, thanks guys... i am currently racing an XR2, but i dont really get a buzz from it... whether its cos its front end drive i dont know, but
it just dont do it for me, so am thinking of selling it at the end of the year and going locost route.. at least i will be able to drive the locost on
the road aswell if i choose to..
