Zetec crankshaft oil seal.
I have been loosng oil from the front of the engine and suspected the crank seal.
I obtained a new seal today but now I have removed the crank pulley I am not sure if the oil is leaking from the seal or elsewhere.
There is a drip of oil coming from the plastic belt cover but the back of the crank pulley was dry and the timing belt lower pulley also appears to be
clean and dry, but there is oil in the recess of the casting surrounding it that seems to be running down from the area behind the water pump
outlet.
I think the oil pump retaining bolts are here but is there anywhere else that the oil can leak from ? is there an oilway on the righthand side behind
the pump ?
i also looked at a haynes manual and it said that it is not possible to change the seal without removing the pump, it looks to me though as if i could
screw a selftap into the seal to pull it out .
Has anyone else had the same problem or changed the seal in situ?

There is more than one type of seal.
The one I got in a gasket set had a spring tensioner on the back of it, I could not get this on with out taking the pump of( spring just falls of).
When changing the pump I bought a Ford seal (£10 ouch) It didnt have the spring and im sure it just slid on with the pump bolted in place.
