7" Sierra Differential

Hi,

I have a 7.5" Sierra differential (from a 2.0l 1991 XR4i) which unfortunately won't fit my build (GTS Panther).

It looks like I will need to use a 7" Sierra diff.

Does anyone know if I will be able to use my existing bolt on driveshaft and hubs (from the 7.5" differential) with a 7" Sierra diff.

Strange question I know but it is probably cheaper and easier if I can use the original driveshafts and hubs etc.

Thanks,

David

Yup, you can. Have to take both of them apart to do it though and swap over the necessary bits. easier said then done!!!

I could well be wrong BUT I thought the only size difference between the 7 1/2 inch and 7 inch was the mounting and case at the front. The output flanges are both the same size on the bolt on types and I thought they were same distance apart on both. so shafts should be the same...

NB as I said I could be wrong....

nay lad, 7 1/2" diff (granada) has larger flanges. The diff width is exactly the same i.e distance between flanges.

I know cos I have one sat in my garage

darrens,
When your next in your garage could you measure the diameter of the flanges on your differential/drive shafts.
That way I can check if my Sierra ones are the same.
Many thanks,
David

Rate then, I had forgot a few things, flanges are 108mm (standard LSD sierra being 95mm ish)but have a read of this http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=30267&page=&contribmessage=none

specifically page 2

Cheers

darrens,

That link is really helpful, if not a bit confusing.

I am thinking that since my 7.5" diff has 100mm flanges (and drive shaft flanges) then all I need to do is replace the diff with a 7" one that has 100mm flanges and I should be able to use my existing drive shafts/hubs etc.?

So basically I need a 7" diff with 100mm bolton flanges.

Or am I miss understanding?

Thanks,

David

correct!!

I got a set of half shafts machined with smaller flanges to fit my 7.5" diff and thus fitmy sierra driveshafts (only because I wanted to keep the granada lsd)

cheers
