exhaust gasket sealing

Hi all,
i have a new manifold that appears to be flat, new gaskets (look like lino with metal fibres in them) not the type with a metal insert.
Should i put some exhaust paste on both surfaces before tightening just to be sure?
thanks kenton

Can't see it doing any harm
Thought it probably shouldn't be necessary...

My manifold flange was obviously twisted when I received it and as a temporary measure I sealed it with RTV silicon and a single layer metal gasket. I didn't expect it to work but it did amazingly. So if your flange is visually flat and you have a gasket I'd be surprised if it didn't seal well.
