Engine advice???
Right - I've removed the cylinder head from my 70k donor Pinto.
The cylinder bores have a 'wear ridge' at the top of each bore. Not huge, but there all the same. However the actual bores appear to be
perfectly OK, with the cross hatching still clearly visible.
Is this usual?
Can the wear ridge be removed and new rings fitted or will a completed re-bore be essential?

for a purist a re-bore, but the engine will run fine as it is, perhaps smoke a little, IMHO changing the rings might help this a little..
I'll leave the rest of the advice to the experts....

but for what it costs id go for a rebore if it has gon over size for the standed pistion get it bord out to a 2135cc the pistions are about £25 from
burton power and the rebore is about £30 
im not sure what the max bor size is for a standed piston and rings?
with 70K on the clock i dout if it is over size for the standed pistion.

You could have it honed /glazebusted and then fit a ring set with a ridge dodger top ring.
If they still do such a thing..............

I remember something called 'Cord Rings' from the dim and distant past, they apparently took any wear in an old engine.
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Thanks for the advice guys!
I think a re-bore might be the way to go, with some new pistons. Off to see a machine shop at the weekend to get some measurements made and see what
can be done.
