Vauxhall to MT75

Did a brief search to see if this has been covered already... didn't find the answer.

Is there a simple way to mate a vauxhall red top to a Ford MT75 gearbox, (which of course doesn't have a detatchable bellhousing). Does somebody do an adapter plate? Any problems with spigot shaft length and bearing in crankshaft?

Simple advice much appreciated (I have an MT75 & don't want to change to Type 9)_

Cheers

John

as far as i know all vx installs use an adapter bellhousing to a type 9 due to the mt75 as you say being an integral bellhousing. if you wanted to make it fit you could make your own adapter plate and put a spacer on the flywheel or a longer input shaft made to compensate but a bellhousing from sbd/qed/caterham/yukspeed/rallynuts might be easier, quicker and cheaper.

see pics on my website for bellhousing/gearbox details.

IMHO, if you are looking at fitting a VX engine, either use a VX gearbox, or get a type 9 (which can be obtained for next to nothing). As Ned says, potentially you could have an adapter plate made (+all the other unforseens), but is it worth the hassle, just because you already have one? Besides, the MT takes up quite a bit of valuable room....

Dont just build it.....make it!

Thanks for the advice, I'll get my build finished and registered with the DOHC/MT75 combo that I have.

I'll then look again at Vauxhall 16V. As you say Stu, my transmissiln tunnel will house an elephant, so I'm sure it'll accommodate any Vauxhall RWD gearbox

1.8 manta's and carltons are the right (getrag) gearbox to use for a vx solution. the 2gte manta box is wrong as the starter is on the wrong side and the bolt pattern is different.
