I have engineered a few 6 cylinder cars in my time. BMW M3 with BMW Motorsport exhaust system was good but Venturi LM600 did it for for me. It was
sooooooooooooooooooloud you could not hear it up close. Renault V6, twin turbos and it had megaphone exhausts fitted. No silencers. Awesome.

Metro 6R4, i remember years ago i was a Cadwell watching a stage rally, a 6R4 was blasting round, and a lass i knew said "that sounds better
than sex" hit the nail on the head !
so locost collective, what are the ingredients for the 6R4 noise, i know it needs to rev to 9000/10000, and have a fairly open exhaust, suspect it is
also to do with crankpin angles and the firing order

Definitely the scooby flat six, out of the blue one came up for grabs tonight and have just sealed it for my next project, well chuffed.
Good effort! You're going to have to post a vid of that when it's installed.

Would the last person who leaves the country please switch off the lights and close the door!
Why does it have the comedy exhausts protruding a good foot past the bumper? Sounds a little rough to me if I'm honest, it has a certain
Beetle-esque rasp on the overrun which is never a good thing.

I love 6r4 have even driven one but my memories are the same kielder in middle of night listening to a stratos for 3/4 miles in the woods unbelivable
Dalby Woodyard probably the same year (mid 80s) goosebumps

The best 6 cylinder noise you'll hear is the one you're hearing at any given time.
Let's be honest, you don't hear enough of them and they all sound good.
Even an Audi V6 TDI sounds good compared to a 4 pot.
(Although a BMW S13 at full bore or a BDA etc.)
Nothing like as good as a Stratos, M3 CSL, 6R4, Mazda KL at 9000rpm, but they all sound good.
For dullest engine note, I vote for.
TVR AJP8, the one with the flat plane crank. Sounds like a 4 cylinder.
Current F2 car with turbo Renault engine. Sounds like about 3500rpm boucing off the limiter.
This is why they must get it right for F1 in 2014.
Straight 6 for me...be it BMW, Jag, Jeep or Ford (owned or driven - and they sound even better from outside). Something about the turbine-esque
smoothness.
"Odd angle" V6's have a certain note to them though - 6R4 Metro, XJ220 (same basic lump), PRV V6 (Renault, Volvo, DeLorean).
V8's don't do it for me, I'm afraid. Always sound like they're missfiring if that makes sense? Know what you mean about the
flat plane TVR lump though - a Pinto sounds better!
