What's the general opinion of the Ashley zetec manifold for the Mk2 Escort?
At £159ish it seems realistically priced, and they regularly appear new on ebay.

I wasnt saying specifically that the Westie item wasn't any good though, just that in general its daft to buy something as important to performance as the exhaust, purely on price alone

God this is a big mire of shite!!

ChrisGamlin is EXACTLY right in what he says.

I have two examples,

first, Both Simpson race exhausts and SDW Fabrication (who incidentally make westfield RACE manifolds (not the cheap road ones though) wanted over £700 + VAT for a decent 4-2-1 manifold for my Vauxhall XE engine.

second, as for westfield manifolds being great, awesome, warrantied etc etc etc, well sorry but bo11o***!! The last westfield pinto manifold I dealt with was brought to me on a weekly basis to be rewelded where it kept cracking, and I have seen similar on crossflow ones. I made a replacement for the pinto one in the end and mine never cracked.

Only real solution to the "high quality high cost" vs " low quality low cost" question is as usual, make your own!!!

Here's mine:

exhaust 2
exhaust 2

but NEVER diss a company because they make a high quality item and then charge a fair but high price for it, you get what you pay for!!!

westfield manifold

The item shown in the picture had a very tuff criteria. It had too be exactly 26" equal length and fit the original hole ( for retrofit) Plus the new chassis has an extra strut to get round.

Buy the way the engine was + 260bhp on that system.

A zetec one would be more like this and cost typicaly £150 in 304 again with mandrel bends.

Tight radii is not an issue in manifolds especially when mandrel bending is employed the main factors are tube size an lengths. But beware children of the "7"

If you go for long primaries you may need a bigger silencer as they lend to pop the gas out faster than short branch units.
