Prop U/J dimensions
I am having a panic that I dont have room for the U/J at the engine end of my propshaft (not yet ordered). I am trying to find the vital dimensions
for the 1140 series of universal joint typically used on our props. Does anyone have a prop to hand, they could take a few measurements from?
Prop UJ drawing
My gearbox adaptor is 87mm, which I think defines the UJ dimensions, but I am not sure. Can anyone confirm X, Y and Z in the above drawing? Thank you.

Just measured one up with a 75mm UJ in,
X = 36mm
Y = 36mm
Z = 83.5mm, assuming Z is the max width of the UJ mount, your line is a bit off.
Rgds.
Pete.

Pete you star - thank you. Out of curiosity, is your prop a BEC prop, and if so, who supplied it?
When you say a 75mm UJ, what does that mean? Is that the width (Z) or the overall legnth (X+Y)?
It looks like if I use your numbers, I will have room, but it will be close!

To measure Z I put the calipers across the forged UJ mount faces, the bits the UJ caps press through.
The 75mm UJ dimension is the size from bearing cap to bearing cap across the UJ.
Its actually a land rover discovery prop, I used the sliding end to fit the MT75 flange in the mgb, thats now welded to the back half of the B prop -
only temporary, Bailey Morris are going to re-tube it when I'm ready for the road, they should be able to do your prop too.
Cheers.
Pete.
