Zetec Engine Questions

These are for all you Zetecr's out there:

1, The inlet manifold gasket I got with the headgasket set is made of rubber, and is about 3mm thick. I guess this is because it's meant for the Mondeo plastic inlet manifold. Is this OK to use with an aliminium manifold for twin webbers, If not what gasket should I use?

2, Does anyone know which cars were fitted with a poly v bely pully for the water pump? (as opposed to the smooth type)

Any advice much appreciated

Steve

The only problem I could see with using the rubber seal is trying to get it to stay in place when you are putting the manifold on. I used 1mm gasket material from the work, and then cut it out to size.

As for the pulley belt. You will probably need to change the water pump as if you put the ribbed pulley on the pump will be going the wrong way. I believe it was the escorts that were fitted with the water pumps going the other way. I got round this problem by mounting the alternator the wrong way, ie under the nose cone, (Just finished first 100 miles and is working spot on) it meant I could use the orginal water pump. I am no use at describing this so this picture might help.

I can't see why gasket won't be OK.
As stu says you need to confirm you have the right water pump, they are about £20 for a new one. Once you have decided on your alternator position you should be able to go to local motor factors and ask for the length belt you need, halfords have most sizes (not all), they can normally check belt length in their parts book and they tend to go up in 10mm jumps. A few people do mounts for the alternator, and I suspect you could adapt the Mondeo one, I was lazy and bought one from Spyder cars.

Thanks for the replys, will go with the rubber gasket.

I've already bought an Escort water pump, but it didn't come with the pully. I need a pully with v grooves in as the mondeo one is smooth (it runs off the back of the belt in the Mondeo). Do the escort or fiesta pumps have grooves in their pump pullys?

Cheers,

Steve

PS Nice Idea Stu - a bit of lateral thinking
