dellorto 40 dhla
Just been offered a pair of del 40dhla carbs on an alfa manifold for £50.Can any one tell me if all these carbs are the same
(except jets, manifold etc).I know there is a suffix letter that needs tobe the same on both carbs, but on ebay there is an alfa pair marked D10 .Is
this important .
II need to know because i cant see them myself as my brother is going to look at them tomorrow .He has a photo to compare them with but no ID Numbers?

I was in a similar situation, and what I gathered was as long as the carbs had the same number of chokes (or was it jets?), and were in a similar
state, then they would be fine. Unfortunately, I got a nearly brand new one when the guy advertised it as good condition, so am having to buy another
nearly brand new one to match.
You'll want a service kit at least, and chances are you will want to rebuild the carbs according to the spec necessary for the engine. However,
£50 seems ok, especially if they have a linkage on them.
regards
Mark

No good buying one and one later - the progression drilling holes will never be the same unless they are drilled at the same time and you will never
be able to get them both tuned spot on. If they are on the Alfa manifold, chances are they are the original matched pair.
Try and find a pair without any letters after the DHLA or they will be a bugger to tune as these are specifically made for Alfa's and are
emission controlled. Watch out for the jet and choke sizes to suit your engine or you could be looking at a bill in excess of £250 for the right ones
- and I'm not exagerating.
I learned the hard way.

Now you are worrying me.
So if they are factory then no go.
I would assume the D10 refers to factory
fitment.I think i,ll have to look at them myself. So there shouldn,t be any other numbers if they are after market.

Some after market come with no letters like off an RS2000. Just be careful.
Also, look at the idle mixture screws (just above the butterflies). If they are in towers, don't bother as the screws seize very easily. Look
for the ones that have a visible sping and no towers. I can get some pics if you like. Hang on and some will appear on Ebay every couple of weeks.
So to sum up - no letters after DHLA 40, idle mixture screws exposed (not in towers) and matched pair.
Hope that helps,
Pat...

Brother says they are marked DHLA40 G With no other numbers or letters.
All the links are there and working and all external screws turn so he,s bought them.I don,t know the choke sizes yet but the guy says they are from a
very old Alfasud.
Now all i need is a pinto manifold, air filters and deep pockets to rejet them(fingers crossed)
Any further advice gratefully recieved.
Thanks again

I was under the impression that the nature of the carbs allowed them to be adjusted so they were spot on. Also, I have come across a number of carbs,
and have never seen any without a letter after the DHLA 40. So realistically searching for ones without it is unreasonable isnt it?

dellorto 40 dhla
These are marked DHLA40 G
what they don,t have is any specific Alfa
number that may denote any non standard modifications that might
be difficult to overcome. If i understand you correctly you mean whatever size chokes and jets fitted i should be able to tune it to my engine.

yeah, exactly. I am pretty sure the letter refers to the age of the carb, and you can buy all the internals to set them up as you require.

Sorry guys, didn't mean to upset anyone.
The letters and number are nothing to do with year of manafacture or car, merely the type of carb.
DHLA 40, DHLA 40C and DHLA 40E - Standard "universal" carb and best of the lot, easy to tune.
DHLA 40F, DHLA 40G, DHLA 40H, DHLA 40L, DHLA 40N - Emission controlled carburettors. These have more progression holes and aren't as suited for
a "7" type application and have very limited tune-ability when fitted to other engines.
Just my two-peneth worth, but please feel free to ignore me if you like,
Pat...

Buy Des Hammills "How to build and power tune Weber and Dellorto DCOE, DCO/SP & DHLA Carbs"
It's well worth the money, written in english and is great for advice.
I bought some 40 DHLA G's for £100 on ebay and have spent £250 getting them right and they are like new now, but still very hard to set. You can
get them new for £400 ish!
On my second pair of DHLA 40's now. Cost £80 on Ebay and are already jetted for a 2ltr and in great nick.
Just be careful! I learned the hard way.

Start by searching for my original post: "carbs fighting back" and take it from there. And there still not right!

Ive just pulled some dellortos off an old alfa engine i have had for years .They are a bit dirty and corroded and I have been cleaning them this
morning.
They are DHLA40Gs and having just checked this thread it appears i may be wasting my time.Has anyone else had experience of this version?Did you get
them to work correctly in the end Pat?
They have the correct 32 mm chokes so i would just need jets etc .
I am also thinking of making some throttle bodys and now think i may hack them about and convert them to throttle bodys if no good as standard.

All,
I have DHLA40's on my car. Bought them from ebay, see link. There is a guy who refurbs the carbs. I gave him the spec of the engine, he made
sure they were a pair and jetted them for me. I started my car for the first time the other day and she runs perfectly on the jet settings he sent.

in the files area of my website there is a tuning guide for the DHLA's. Photos also
avalible (link
If anyone want any information on my setup please let me know
