Sorry to moan but I think that some people fail to see the point of forums such as these set up to HELP people.
If those after 9904169 want to spend there time constructively either help on such issuses or make the posters feel that they are helping.
Judging from the number of views (over 100 within 12 hours) this is a subject that people have been interested in. I am sure it has helped and will
help someone out there.
Thanks for the research and knowledge jamesfear and (Beverley Hills?) 9904169.

Thanks JamJah for seeing what the post was all about in the first place!
Not so young thanks Syd Bridge
How about adding some more to the list Syd or jonti, that you could or even what to use?

The two Ford engines that are used by locosters more than any other, are missing from your list, The Pinto and the Crossflow, i am not going to list
what cars they were used in simpley because if it was rear wheel drive it had one or the other at some time (post 60's)

That is fine viper but both of them are very old (and a bad design at that) and are getting harder to find.
The list was about giving a better idea of what is out there that could be used and what car they were in.
Here is one more that would be very hard to get to fit the gearbox but would be very fast in a locost. It’s a VW g60 (8v) 180bhp standard and can go
up to 230, 250 very easy

Pinto's are getting harder to find?
Really?
I could get you ten within the hour.
Time would be better spent finding out how these marvellous new engines can be used in a Locost without spending £1500 on induction and ignition.
And one of our "Old"gearboxes.
Cheers
Chris
Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

Man! You really didn't want to go there!
I'm just picturing the look on the faces of all the members here who love the Crossflow!

Apart from the gearbox there's another serious issue- it's a bloody tall engine- I have an 8v MK2 Golf and liked the idea at first but
with the height I'd have thought it's only suitable for a midi application.
Also I'd have thought the cost of maintaining the g-lader turbo might be pretty prohibitive for this application. Isn't it about £400 for
a rebuild and I wouldn't have thought they were that common at the scrappy!
Appreciate the vein of the original post though- as with others I read it wrongly the first time- took a 2nd read to get what you were attempting.
All the best!
James
P.S. If you do find a bell housing I'd be very interested so keep us informed!

induction and ignition dose not have to cost that much!
I could get 8 rover v8s in less then that but you will say they are not hard to find.

I will be doing some tests on using vw engines and well keep you informed but well be using a zetec at first.
It was a bit of a, you could type of thing with the g60. Ya the cost of keeping it going would be very high.
I hope no one has taken any think I have said the wrong way. We are all here for the same reason are we not?

My Pinto is 180bhp:
theres a company is Oz that will do you a bellhousing for just about any combination
Old they maybe hard to find they aint, biggest bonus has to be no cat and easy to get through the sva emmisions test, and above all when they go wrong
(and all engines do) they are easily fixable.
but if you want to talk about engine alternatives how about the AJP? superb design, available with 460bhp and is already configed for RWD.....
