Bike carbs air vents idle jets..

Bike carb question looking at the carbs from the air inlet side I have 2 recessed jets the opening is flush with the carb face and the jets or vents sit well down.
The car is running a little rough at the moment and fuel is blown out of these 2 holes I am sure they are air vents and I have noted some people blocking these off this I have blocked them off and the idle drops considerably but the running improves no end with quite a smooth throttle response.
Question is are these idle jets? Or air vents? And how do they effect the performance of the carb through the rev range?
Thanks for any help..

I think the holes you are refering too are,

Main air jet and pilot air jet.

air correction holes .
the reason the holes are blocked on zx9r carbs is to stop the carbs/ fuel going week at high revs

I had fuel blowing out of the pilot air jet too (there was a thread about it). Turned out to be a problem with the float valves not working properly due to improper assembly at some stage in the past (not me) but if they are dirty or stuck, you could have the same issue.

Thanks Paul I am still focusing on the megajolt at the moment I get good response upto 2500 rpm then the miss fire badly blowing flames out of carbs would indicate premature ignition getting a bang before the inlet valve has closed?
could this be interferance messing with the pip and saw signal?
any help appreciated
