In the days of the Ford Escort Mk1, (1970's) it was the close ratio gearbox of choice. It had a detatchable bellhousing, cable clutch and I
think only 4 forward gears. It was probably the original gearbox fitted to the Mk1 RS2000 & Mexico Escorts

Yes, its the gearbox that is more commonly known as the Type E. It was fitted to;
Capri 1.6/2.0 82on
Cortina Mk4/5 1.6Gt/2.0/2.3
Escort RS2000 MK1/2
Escort Mexico Mk2
Sierra 1.6/2.0
Its a 4 speed single rail box, it was a stronger replacement to the Type 3.
Hope that helps a bit
Cheers

I take it the rockets are the same weight as the type 3??
The 5 speeds (type 9) are much heavier, even with alloy bellhousing, which is why I'm keeping 4 speed, but a stronger box might be handy.
are they necessary?

You're right Mark, that box you sold me is significantly lighter than a type 9..I'm tempted to use it and keep t'otehr as a spare.

Thanks Guys,
I've been looking for a bell housing to mate a Toyota 3SGE to a type 9 gearbox. Found a website in New Zealand that mentioned a
"ROCKET" and a"CORTINA" BOX.
