i think i'm right in saying it should be either a 2.8 or 2.9 cologne v6. the 3ltr was the earlier essex v6 iirc.
is it injection/efi or carb? Someone will be able to help I'm sure.
Ned.
beware, I've got yellow skin

It will be a cologne. Quick way of telling what cc it is by the number of exhaust ports on each cyl head.
2 = 2.8
3 = 2.9
Dont just build it.....make it!

XR4x4 engines were in 3 flavours
2.0 I4
2.8 V6
2.9 V6
easy way to tell - if the throttle body comes off the side of a square plenumn and points towards the passanger side, its a 2.8
if the throttle body comes down the front and has 2 pipes going to afm's behind the passanger headlight its a 2.9
2.8 - admittadly this is the turbo technics converted one tho.
2.9 - again a turbo technics converted engine, and quiite possibly the fastet one on the roads today owned by a mate of mine down london way.
the differance between the standard engines is easy tho as the tt conversions dont make them look much differant (the 2.8 TT has the plenum turned
thru 180 degrees to give the throttle body room on the other side)

and did you note for referance i stated that the pictures i posted are of the turbotechnics conversions? i thought not.
point settled.

2.9 has 3 exort ports yes
2.8 (uk/europe engine) has siamesed exhaust ports thus 2
2.8 american engine has 3 exhaust ports and alloy heads.
2.8 EFI LOOKS similar to the 2.9 efi, apart from the obvious fact that the 2.8 efi was never fitted into a uk sierra and was used in the granada only,
and for a very short period of time due to the unreliablness of it.
and as for my learned reply - why should it be learned? the knowlege of the engine i behold is vast and varied and is put to good use wherever
possible - as many of my customers will tell you.
and you state that the origional post was for scorpio 4x4. it says sierra, and just for clarity, the scorpio 4x4 was a 2.9 efi engine.

note the word sierra?
i'm a sierra guru known by many for my knowlege. as far as i am aware the scorpio 4x4 has the 2.9 engine - i've not looked at a scorpio
4x4 engine before, but with the gearbox been the mt75 flavour i am led to believe it is 2.9 as the 2.8 (as fitted to the sierra) used the T9 box.

you've confused me now - where did scorpio originally come from, i've read and reread this thread and cant find mention of scorpio apart
from when you bring it up?

I think there may be a suggestion of you being a youngster that knows everything with little time behind you to have built a knowledge base...
I don't know either way, so I'm not commenting...
That's how it sounded to me is all..

if i get accused of been a knowall then so be it - i know what i know and have built up my knowlege from a lot of hard work and time spent - how many
other "youngsters" as you put it would even attempt to build a car from scratch? not many from my understanding. just because i arnt
smoking a pipe and wearing zip-up tartan slippers with the bobble on the end doesnt mean i dont know what i'm talking about.
rant over. period

So unless you have strangely dropped on a Yank V6, the easy way to tell is an exhaust port count then?
Folk (and probably Ford) can change inlet manifolds willy-nilly. It is a lot harder to add an exhaust port-unless the heads are changed. So at that
point, you would need to strip the engine to find out cc's anyway....
Dont just build it.....make it!

next time this thread comes up, i shall recommend removing the plugs, filling each cylinder with water, turning it over, followed by a cry of eureka.
the the issue shall be settled with less fuss...

We could get 6 of us...check a cylinder each and test the bore and stroke. Come to a mean average compromise and bury the hatchet.
Having said that I have LOL'd at every other post.
Is there an ex Dagenham Propulsion worker who could settle this.
MR HAYNES...you're up...

as an owner of a 2.4 (same as 2.9) cologne, I can verify that the engine plegnum looks like the one graceland says is a 2.9. My meagure understanding
is that the 2.8 air intake is from the rear.
And I have 3 ports per side for sure.

it would also appear that from reading the forums that you dont like young people knowing anything full stop.
but i wont stoop to arguement level.

I'm 24 and trying to do one +4 with a rover v8 and dedion suspension, and before I started I'd never even changed my brake pads.
Just cos I'm building one doesn't mean I have a clue.

And therein could lie your problem...
You simply cannot change you brake pads until AFTER you have started...
