Type 9 - bent circlip
L&G,
I've just dismantled a type 9 for a check-over and re-gasket/seal. I may try it in place of the auto some time.
I removed a circlip that didn't need to come off and bent it in the process
It's the forward one of the two that fit on the output shaft (by the bearing on the right)...

...the left one here:
Circlips
Three options:
a. Will it survive being straightened and re-used;
b. Get a new new one - but where from?
c. Anyone got a spare one they could send me for a beer token?
I thought it would be more highly tempered than that.
There's a gasket+seal set on its way to me, and the internals of the box look OK so I'll get it back together with a view to trying it in
the car - maybe swap it as a winter project. I have flywheel+plate+cover but no release bearing or arm. Is it better to go hydraulic, cable or links.
I'm thinking a straight link from pedal to arm could work or maybe pedal->link->crank->link->arm (pivots on the crank arranged to
give correct pull ratio. Anyone done this successfully? And where can I get suitable rod ends?
Possibly hang the crank from the OS engine mount?
It's not that I don't like the auto, I'm just thinking of trying it for next year & swap back later maybe...
Thanks,
John.

We had a bent one when we took a gearbox apart at college. We just straightened it out and put it back.
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

I got it for £20 from a colleague about 4 years ago so was too good to miss, even though I didn't really need it. I think it had been in a
trials car.
