Ford 4 spd - Reverse Stop Plate Removal
Anyone know the best way to remove the Reverse Stop out from the gear lever hole on a 4 speed gearbox out of a 1.3 Crossflow engined escort Mk2.

Take out the gear change from the housing , by undoing the nylon nut. Also tap out the the circular blank , at the end by knocking it out from the
inside.
This will now allow you to tap out the reverse catch , through the open end . It is a little bit of a fiddle but it is is pretty straight forward.
Then just tap back the end cap

Can I ask why you are doing this..... i have a 4 speed box and wonder if i shall need to remove it also?

You only need to do this if you want to move your gear change back using an extension. If you're happy leaving the stick in the origional
position then ignore this.
However, moving the change back may make gear change more comfy. If so, the reverse peg needs to come out -----in the origional state, to engage
reverse you need to depress the gear lever -----this isn't possible via an extension, hence removal of the peg and introduction of some other
sort of reverse protection. ie--gate , or something ingenious.

Phew, gald i seen this and asked that daft question, yes I'll need to move mine aalso... anyone got any detailed info on what i need?
