Zetec waterpump identification

Not sure if it is possible but can you tell from looking at it wether it is from a 1.8 or 2.0 as I believe they run different directions.

The outlet on the 1.8 pump is straight, but it's angled on the 2.0l.

Cheers

The angle of the oil pump is differant aswell and this can help a little with clearance with the steering down link.

can a 1.8water pump be fitted directly on to a blacktop 2.0l? or is my only option a pulley and belt? ta lewis.

On the blacktop, an idler wheel is easiest, and means you retain stock components, there was a US company doing oposite impellers, but that means pulling the pump apart.

Here's my effort, it is a blacktop, just had an alloy cam cover on when this pic was taken.

I got a reverse impellor from the states, only took 20 min to swap over and cost about £55 including tax, From These guys.

Makes things much simplier.

Easier, quicker cheaper to put an idler in the system. That way if the pump buggers its just a straight replacement.

Easiest way to tell is if it has a ribbed or smooth pulley. Escort's have ribbed going the same way as the crank, Mondy's and the others have smooth which uses the back of the belt and need an idler. Rescued attachment front.jpg
