Overfueling....regulator?
Last week the "sierra" regulator stopped allowing fuel to my carbs... so I bypassed the regulator and connected the mechanical pump
straight to the carb...
This worked for a while, but now the engine has started to backfire like a madman... so I suspect that the pump is pushing fuel past the float
valve...
I think I need to get another regulator of some type...
The engine is a 1.6 Pinto with the twin choke Webber from a 2.0L pinto...
Using the standard mechanical fuel pump..
What regulator would I require? (what pressure etc?)
If this doesnt cure my problem im not sure what else to try...

Wouldnt have thought the mech pump would overcome the float valve.
Are you sure you havent got crap in the line which caused the regulator to fail, and has now screwed the float valve?

I have this for sale;
 
regulator
£10 plus p&p
It is the regulator only, i.e. no filter but worked well with my Dellorto's.

Backfiring can be caused by lean mixtures. Are you sure there is no blockage which was the underlying cause of the original problem?

Im fairly sure its over rich.... the plugs are black and sooty almost fury.... and I get flame out of the exhaust!
