1600 Xflow Engine height
Hi I'm building a 'book' car with an engine from a 1600 Escort Ghia (MK 2). All measurements are as the book and uncle Ron tells us
that we should have no more than 1" of sump sticking out below the chassis. It seems that with a 'standard' nosecone and scuttle
there will be about 2" of twin choke Webber sticking out the top. I realise that the 1600s are alittle taller than the 1300s.
Can someone advise the standard way of dealing with this?

Doc,
I am / was in the same position as you.
Three things I have done, as I wanted to keep the Westfield copy nosecone I have.
Hope one or more of these ideas might help?
So far I have:
i) Cut about 1" off the rocker cover oil filler pipe - dead easy
ii) Shortened the sump and oil pick up pipe - not so easy, plenty of plans how do do it are about though + don't forget the dipstick
won't be accurate afterwards.
iii) I used Weber DCOE sidedraft carbs or you could pick up some Dellorto DHLAs, but I believe the spares aren't so easy to get hold of now?
(cue avalanche of 'oh no they're not'
- obviously now my air filters stick out of the RHS of the bonnet, but only by around 1" on the front filter. The wind rushing down the bonnet
side gives a 'ram-air' effect. (yeah, right)
HTH. Good luck.

I have fitted 1.6 xflow as per book.
I bought standard nose and scuttle and have this problem. However 2 things....
I added another top rail so that I raised bonnet etc by 1"...
And secondaly.. I believe Luego now sell their fibreglass kits which fit the taller Pintos.. so I would guess these would accommodate a xflow without
the webbers sticking through.. Anyone any thoughts on this?
Cheers H
