what thickness of steel?

should i make this from?

its a lower radiator mount for the car, it sits in a steel channel going the toher way up.

was originally thinking of 3mm ali, but there's several problems with that, folding or welding etc won't be easy for me. can't find any U channel the right size either.

decided i could go with steel with some little rectangular fillets welded across the inside to give it some bracing

but is 1mm thick steel too thin?

How about a couple of 90 degree strips then rivet on the end plates. I bet you could do that with 1.5 to 2mm ally (the sort B&Q sell)?

slot isn't for anything, just so i've not got so much metal there if it doesn't need to be

had thought about 90 degree angles, but not riveted ali. thought it might get a bit wobbly after a while? worth a thought, but Colins u2u is interesting
