I have connected a nissan micra rad to my zetec engine, question now is do I use the fan switch in the rad or the one on the thermostat housing ?

I'd go for the one in the thermo housing as that is going to switch at the temp ford intended. I dont know what temp the ford will switch at but
the micra trips at 95-100 degrees.
24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not

Ive used a micra rad and used the switch in the rad. Works fine.
I'm sure I've got one, just don't know where I've put it

I used both the one in the thermostat housing AND the one in the Polo rad! They're wired in parallel, so the fan will come on if either one
operates.
The reason for this was that I wanted a blanking plug for the rad hole, and the standard switch was cheaper!
rgds,
David
P.S. Both operate at 85C

if you want to use the switch from the Sierra, get a hose off a 1.8TD, the switch is in a reinforced brass plate about half way up.
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

I know you can have different temperature settings for the ford thermostat housing, mines about 83 degrees, Intermotor do various types.
But I would use both as a fail safe.
Mark.

If you are fitting an ECU then that might well have a fan output. Mine uses the temp sensor and switches the fan at whatever temp you type in. Mines
set for on 99deg-off 95deg. Fit a new Ford thermostat and you will find it runs at just over 90deg only rising when stopped in traffic.
