sump clearence

Hi all, lowered my mk indy zetec on to the floor the other week, just checked on how much sump clearence i have from the floor, does 3" sound about right . how much clearence do you have on yours. cheers.

Anything less than 4" is a worry because that is the legal permitted height of speed bumps

80mm for me- no problems but I do go slow over s/bumps

My bell housings the lowest part of mine at aroung 70mm.Built a skid for it, but its not bottomed out even after being slightly airbourn. I avoid speed bumps like the plague tho!

Mine was about 3" which was fine until I hit a raised manhole when the road surface was being removed. Cue bent chassis, broken engine mounts, ripped sump, etc.
Definitely going for a shallow winged sump with the current build.
This chap will probably do mine.

Duncan have you set the ride height yet?
by that i mean the body side to floor if i remember right 4.5 at the front and 5.5 at the rear
I have just found this photo in your archives and the engine /gear box is no lower below the chassis then mine

Hi Graham, no not set ride height yet, was not sure on the correct height, but now you have told me what yours is i will set mine to the same and remeasure. cheers Graham.

sump clearance

im building a kitcar at college and we modified the sump. cut bought two inches off the bottom and shortened the pickup pipe and welded side panels on the sump and the bottom now it sits flat with the frame and still holds same amount of oil if u buy the haynes kit car manuel bout £17 from halfords it shows you how to modify the sump and other parts

Hi if you cut 2 ins /50mm of the bottom of the sump thats about 12mm more then you needed to .
That makes the bottom of the sump higher them the gear box / fly wheel housing
