Clutch pedal ratios

What is the general consensus on hydraulic clutch pedal ratios?

I am thinking around 3:1 or 4:1 would be suitable?

Cheers,
David

David,

Some maths required, since you'd need to know the master and slave piston diameters. You could work it out from the mechanical leverage on a cable-clutch system, or alternatively (assuming you know the volume of oil to the slave needed to fully disengage the clutch) by the stroke of the clutch pedal (which is kind of fixed as you'd want to have the clutch pedal level with the brake pedal?) and working out the needed diameters and leverages from there?

I know I need 7mm of slave cylinder stroke to release the clutch, and this equates (handily) to 14mm of slave cylinder stroke.

Which I can get with a pedal ratio as high as 5:1.

So I guess the higher the ratio the better as it will need more clutch pedal movement to release/engage and give more progressive feel.

Its all a bit tight to the bellhousing, I think I may need to have the resevior on the master cylinder at a slight angle to clear it.

The master cylinder is one of these:

If that's the case then I would go for the highest ratio you can get away with. Lighter clutch with more feel = better, right?

A high pedal ratio (and thus more feel in the clutch) might also be helpful if you were to ever move to a paddle clutch without axial springs when (not if, but when ;-) ) you decide to have a fiddle with those blower pulley diameters....
