choke on a xflow

I read in some of the past posts that some of the racers remove the choke from their carbs on 1.3 xlow, can I do the same for my road going 1.6 xflow, or would I have trouble starting the engine?

my dad had a twin cam alfa engine in his, twin carbs, no choke. started okish but it really needed 5 minutes just sitting there to keep alive every time he wanted to drive it.

if you don't fail, you aren't trying hard enough.

if you are using twin webber with an over rich mixture then the engine will start after a couple of times. I am using a standard 1.6xflow with the original carb with no choke cable, dont have a problem starting, usually takes 2 or 3 attempts but it does start.

The 60's Alfa's without chokes had hand throttles to keep the engine running once you had started it, you backed it off after a mile or two just like a choke

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

I had the same issue , so I converted the water choke to a manual one. It does seem to need the choke for ease of starting, especially if it hasn't been run for a while --like in the winter 1

i bought a cconversion kit for about 20 quid. Can't remember from who, but found it via an add. in one of the kit cat mags

I took the choke off my pinto weber carb. Pump it twice then start it and blip it till it ticks over. It soon warms up enough to run smoothly. The racers used to remove the butterfly from the second choke on some carbs for extra power I remember from somewhere.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

will probably try without first, but may add a choke if i have difficulties.
does any one know if chokes manual/automatic are universal fits between carbs?
just wondering cause i have two spare carbs with one of each.
