Type 9 Gear Extender Problem
Hi all.....bought a Westy remoteextender but I have a problem as you can see from the pic. The lever/link just touch the UV joint on the prop (heavy
duty type UV).
Now I can probably gain at least 6mm by a combination of re-making the rear part of the shaft, spacing the unit up a nats from the box and spacing the
lever up from the remote.
Just wanted to check there's not something simpler I've missed as brains a bit fried trying to work out new Premier Wiring Loom!!

Oh.....in my haste I forgot to ask.....would 6mm ish clearance be Ok??

You only need 2-3mm ish of clearance, nothing can move as long as there is no flex in the extension.

Looks a it close - my one isn't that close. It looks a bit bent..
The other thing does n't it need the pastic rocker mechanism otherwise the lever wont engage..

If it was me I would replace the extender shaft and lengthen the whole extender so it misses, it will also bring the gear lever a bit further back
which maybe a a bit better, depends how big/small you are.
I made my own extender and its a lot longer, pictures are in my gallery somewhere with the measurements I used.
I wouldn't like a prop gap of 6mm if using rubber engine mounts. fixed mount racing car it'd be ok. But not in a road car in my
opinion.

Had the same problem, used a piece of 2mm alloy to act as a spacer. To begin with I used a couple of washers on each bolt and that worked fine too.

Hi Frank...it's not bent...just my ace photo skills making it look like it is. What plastic bit are you referring to.....if you mean the
plastic ball joints etc it has a short shift kit fitted and there is a 10mm spacer which you can just see in the photo which hides it all.

i fitted the saddle clip from my original transmision bit on to the extended bit...
just because you are a character, doesnt mean you have character....
for all your bespoke parts, ali welding, waterjet, laser, folding, turning, milling, composite work, spraying, anodising and cad drawing....

Jolly greengiant had this problem , it turned out that the prop U/J was larger than most IIRC

Yep it's fine 25mm clear which is what the prop manufacturers recommend.

Yep same problem here. I found a 2mm spacer did work the problem being the higher you space the extender, the closer together your selections become.
For example my 1st gets very close to reverse and you needed the nack to select 1st.
Depends on how much clash. If you dont have too much power maybe a smaller knuckled prop would be the answer.
