ZETEC SE Engine
Hi All,
Been reading about the SE engine looks like a great power plant, however there isn't as much info out there as for the 'standard'
Zetec.
Do these engines need a lowered sump and if so where would you get one from?
I've found a bell housing to go onto the Type 9.
I've also found shawspeed also regarding tuning.
Just wanted to make sure they are usable before buying.
Anyone using one?

I could be way off the mark here but from what i have learned about the SE engine there are not many parts available for a rebuild.
A bloke i know has one in his focus and he snapped the cam belt.when he tried to get parts he was told it was a throw away engine and he needed a new
one.
The exhaust is on the same side as the pinto but personaly i would use a zetec s.
Lots of tuning bits available and reliable.
Thats just my two penarth worth and no doubt i will be shot down in flames in a minute

This is true, Ford will not sell you a set of pistons, rods or even bearings. They will only sell you a complete short engine. You can get pistons
from a very few motor factors though.

Burton Power have started stocking some tunning parts for the SE
The 1.7 in my old puma was a good engine BUT The 2 ltr duratec in my ST is so much better.

From what I've heard they are prone to big end failer...
1.8 zetecs can be much cheaper, are easier to tune and give more power.

i have one,
massive underrated IMO
all bearing and parts you can get, great high revving and very light, run mine for 3 years revving to 8k on stock bottom end no problems, mine ran
cams headwork busa throttle bodies and made 175bhp and 130lbft run like this for 3 years, im now rebuilding it with rods pistons wilder cams some work
on the crank and it should see 200bhp,
i run a standard baffled sump at the moment but will use a accusump for track use, shawspeed do all the parts and can do shortened sumps and jon is
fantastic to deal with and prices are very good drop me a u2u if you require any more info

I have seen a lot of spares and tuning parts for these, Caterham after extensive trials use them to replace the rover engine.
All alloy, designed by Yamaha and rev like stink.
I think these units sit between car and bike engines and seem to have best of both worlds- very tunable, very light, and a proper reverse gear.
Thanks for all your replies. Beaver I may be in touch thanks

why would anybody want zetec if brand new, cheap as can be, ecoboosts will soon be out there? As long as the transmission thing will work (Mazda or
Transit van I suppose are the candidates)... Even now, the Zetecs are, what, 700 pounds new?
BTW, how much does it cost to get one of those crate engines in Locost configuration (fuel rail change, exhaust, intake manifold, carbs vs EFI etc)?

I sincerely doubt they will be 3k to buy once they've been out 6 months. Remember, the Zetec new is not generally out of donors for most people
now.

As someone people have stated. Its more than waiting just 6months. Its going to be 6 months before they are on the market for £2k standard, will be
2-3 years before they are the price of zetec's now. Well thats what i think, happy to be proven wrong in this case though.

I'm very interested in the Ecoboost 1.6 and six speed manual trans.
Any updates on pricing or availability?
How do we handle the new DFI systems?
Does anyone know if the new six speed could be used with the earlier Zetec SE engine?
Thanks

OK - Plan B
Are there any complete 1.6 EcoBoost engines and manual trans available at the breakers yet?
Might also consider the 1000 EcoBoost setup.
Thanks
