Zetec Type 9 Clutch Problem

Hi Guys,
Managed to get my engine out this morning on my own with a bit of a stress. Unfortunately managed to be clumsy and pull off some of my engine wiring plugs. So thats a bugger but nevermind, will order new plugs tomorrow...

Anyway back to the problem. Had a bit of a play with it when the engine was half out. My cable had so much tension it was stopping the clutch arm returning to its position. I then gave it a bit of a hard nudge and it started working and i thought a new cable would solve the problem. Came inside to have breakfast, gone back out and dammit. Clutch arm has gone floppy and will move from side to side with no pressure whatsoever.
Going to take gearbox off the engine in a bit. But anyway know whats wrong?
Thanks
Ed

Just had a bit more of a play, and its not all floppy. The last 1cm is rock stiff.... Starting to think wrong release bearing maybe?

What bearing are you using? You need a ctt133 I don't know why it should go loose? Either it would work or not? Hope this helps and I'm not wasting your time Reading this lol. :-)

I can't actually remember, did this part of the build about a year ago. But going to take it apart today and hope that the part number is on the item?

You can usually tell is the wrong release bearing is fitted when you cannot mate the box up to the engine without using the bolts to pull it in.

All i do know is that i got that release bearing from Raceline. So im pretty sure they sent the correct one.... And i dont recall any problems getting them to mate!

cct133 the ford capri Mk1 1300 1968 on i think.

It should sit about 10mm prouder than the original sierra one thats used on the type 9 but as you said raceline should know whats what.

I've been searching as i'm sure i posted up a pic of the two release bairings side by side.

is it the last 1cm going forward thats stiff?? If so sounds like youv got either the wrong bearing or the wrong bellhousing.

I had problems with mine when i first fitted it. I had a p100 bellhousing which is 2 inches or so longer which puts thepivot for the clutch arm too far away from the clutch. Im tinking 7 inches and 9 inches from gearbox to mounting face.

Clutch springs look inverted, mine are quite flat compared to that.

What's the cover off?

Them diaphram fingers look way too close to the plate as coozer says. What clutch combo have you got?? Mines 1.8 flywheel with standard mondeo 1.8 clutch.

The bell housing looks like a normal one to me.

Just been out and studied a spare one I have.

Compared to your pic the fingers on mine are up against the retainer on the outside and about 25mm away from the splines in the plate.

Yours looks as it should when the pedals pressed!
