zetec & MT75

I tried to mate my 1.6 Zetec engine to my mt75 gearbox today and hit two problems.

1st - Only the bolt holes in the engine block line up with the holes on the gearbox, and the lower aluminium casting seems to be a completely different bolt pattern.

2nd - The lower aluminum casting does not allow the starter motor to be mounted on to the gearbox.

Can anybody help me

You are right about the bolt pattern, I'm using the five in the block, I'm sure that will be enough.

As for the sump interfering with the starter, my starter is a Lucas replacement part no. STR707, It is a close fit to the Escort sump I am using. It is fitted to the bottom left hand side when viewed from the gearbox. You seem to have a different sump or casting in that position, do you have a photo from the side ?

Thanks Mick,

I'll just use the bolt holes in the block then.

I was concerned it might be a different casting - I'll take a photo of the side tonight when i get home from work

Below is a photo looking along the side of the engine showing the back of the casting.

If the block is the same as the early zetec why not try a early sump from a escort/mondeo and then not hassle fitting a starter. Otherwise just cut away bit of sump that is in the way as long as it does not break through to the oil side. I've just used the engine fixings for the gearbox, this is the norm. I made a new sandwich plat to stop anything getting into the bellhousing.

I agree with Zetec, get another sump. The Escort sump is about 20mm shorter than the Mondeo one.

Thanks for the advice.

Im happier knowing that 5 bolts is the usual.

I'll probably just hack abit of the casting off to try and stop the esculating costs
