Broken/jammed distributor

I removed my recently refurbed dizzy to find 2 small screws have come a drift in the actuall distributor body,Now there is a metal disc in the internal of the dizzy with 4 pegs that stick out/down and the screws have got caught in here and the pegs !!

I stuck on a new dizzy yesterday,Car fired no problem but has a really promenent ticking/knocking noise !!!

I'm just after opinion on this ?

What else should I be looking at to see where the noise is coming from ?

Could the force of the engine turning(car cutout at about 50mph) and the screw jamming the dizzy have caused the timing to jump ??

My first reaction was bent valves ?

If it were the valves,What other symptoms would be showing ?

I'm going to go out and do another compression test today,I did check yesterday but my head was in it !!

Did you remember and give the replacement distributor a tiny spot (n.b. tiny ) of oil before you fitted it --- if a distributor is dry of lubricant it will tick..

Normally way to this put a single drip of engine oil on screw revealed when the rotor arm is removed also two drips of oil below the base plate. best to allow a few minutes for excess oil to drain down before starting the engine.

I never oiled the distributor at all !!

I've just done a compression test and the compression is down on what it was.

Before I had 185psi across the 4 cylinders now I have 185/170/170/150.

I have also just timed it back up and the timing seems to be in the original position !!
