Pretty sure Zetec is shorter than a Pinto and will fit in an unmodified chassis (that's what we are aiming for). www.zetecinside.com has a lot of
info.

I wonder if there is anything extra to be gained by trying the 2.3 zetec as used in scorpio's + galaxy's.
Just a thought, not heard of anyone using them and wondered why.

Guys
I was planning on using a Zetec but got put off. Nothing to do with the size - more I was worried about the whole pre-J plate donor thing (ie you'll
need a CAT after that and where's that going to go on a Locost)
Just a thought in case you've not thought of it. If you do decide to go for it, the some J plate Orion 1.8's came with a 130bhp unit which is
supposed to be the one to go for. Look out for a sticker saying 130PS on the top pipe between the airflow meter and the manifold (as opposed to
115PS)

and theres something bout either the water pump or oil pump dependin on weather it comes out of the escort/fiesta or mondeo

Agreed - the engine itself is a very similar height to the CVH. Only problem is that the injection system sits on the top which makes the complete
unit much higher.
IMHO the best plan would be to stick 40's on it for performance/sound and therefore you would junk the injection system and solve the height problem
aswell! Job done!

Chris, that is exactly what we are planning to do. I had forgotten about the extra height involved if the injection system is retained!

Excellent. I'll probably go Zetec eventually - just want to get through the SVA emissions test first then do the swap.
I've been offered plenty of 1.8 130bhp engines for around the £200 mark complete. Got to remove it yourself but that's no bother really. Beware
though - I've also been offered them for a *lot* more...!

We got ours for £150 from a local guy (Ipswich) that posts on here, Andy Hewing. He seems to know his stuff. Also there is a company in Stowmarket
(right on our doorstep) that specialises in Zetec race engines and components called Dunnells (the company, not the components). They were very
helpful in providing information.
Only downside with going Zetec route appears to be the expense of converting it to run on carbs.
But Dunnells do some very flashy gadgets that allow outputs to computers and stuff. Great for us gadget freaks!!

A set of 40's should cost you £150 or so which is essentially all you need to do the conversion. £150 seems a good price - all the adverts I've
seen from Andy seem to be very overpriced but that sort of money for a Zetec is very good.
There was a chap at Stoneleigh from 'Sid's tune shop' in Birmingham who seemed to know a lot about converting Zetec's to Weber Alpha throttle body
systems and all the computer mapping that goes with that. He might be worth a phone call?

Hi Guys
A guy I know has a Westie with a 2.0 Zetec in it with stock injection. How does it fit you ask? The plenum chamber is a fabricated ally one ( by MK
actually) turned on it's side a-la Rob Lane's Toyota twin Cam (also with help from MK). I think this is the way to go. If I decide to change my
engine it's going to be Zetec 1.8 130ps with std injection but 2.0 throttle body and ECU. Look in last months Classic Ford mag, there's a guy up
here sells kits to convert mk11 escorts but he's not cheap (uses Omex ign). All I need now is a 130ps Zetec in good nick, any takers?

PTM - I know of one down here with 100k on the clock for £200. Can't vouch for it's condition but for that price I'm sure youcan afford a rebuild
aswell.

OK AFAIK and I'm waiting to be shot down in flames
Up to '92, no cat, relaxed emmissions test.
Between '92 and '95, no cat needed (by law) but much more difficult (maybe impossible without a cat) to pass emmissions test.
'95 onwards, cat required by law.
I'm sure someone will trot along now and point out that I'm talking out of my rusty bullet hole, but at least I tried

That's what I thought aswell, however from what I've heard your 'maybe' is wrong... it IS impossible to pass without a cat.
Anyway, for the hassle you'd go through, stick a ropey XFlow in for the SVA then change it afterwards. Once you've got the emmissions
classification that's it for the life of the car.
