xflow how big??

It seems that there is at least one Xflow fan in here, so if some one can tell me how to id the capacity of an xflow. Tripped over an mk2 the other day no papers what soever, would it be 1100,1300 or with luck a 1600. It looked okay under the bonnet but oily at the front of the engine

fastenuff,

1300 x-flows have 6015-A-A cast on the side of the block and 33 on the head, 1600s have 6015-B-A on the block and 37 on the head.

711M as a prefix on the block is preferable as they have stronger main bearing caps.

Unless you've heard the engine running I wouldn't worry about an oil leak as it wouldn't hurt to replace the seals and gasket.( not hard with 60's technology)

hope that's helped Dan.

thanks Dan
Will have to have a talk with the scrappy then wether he'll sell the lot. I don't know wether the engine runs or not. But it is complete nothing dismanteled apart from the off side wing.
Yes 60 's tech I sort off like that idea, a basic fun car.

i was alwauys told that the 1.6/1.3 xflow blocks where the same and it was the crank and cons where different and the 711m had thicker side walls and was normally only used as 1.6 cos it was stronger

am i wrong???????

Hi
The 1600 block is taller than the 11/1300 block. The bores of all the engines is the same it's the stroke that gives the capacity change. If you can only get one finger between water pump housing and thermostat housing at's a 1300 three fingers and it's a 1600. A 711m block can normally be bored out to give 1760cc (1340ish in a 1300 block) max but the pistons are'nt cheap.

just to add to Scutter's coments, this is as per Haynes:
1100 also has 711M-6015-A-A, but has engine type G1B, G2C and G3A
1300 has engine types - lc - J1F, hc - j2H, 2v - J3D
1600 engine type is L3A

as most of the above have said, the 1600 is taller than the 1300, i wish i had known that when building my car, as it started life as a weedy 1300, looked good but had the performance of a push bike,so i blew that engine up in a month and stuck a nice 1700xflow in, what a differance, but!! oh its about a 2.5 inches taller and my carb wont fit in, so a few mods, drop the engine
grind of the oil filler etc and it fits "just"
part 2
its got to come out again cos ive trashed this one as well
