whats the cue with vacuum advance

what does it doe cause i have removed the pipe while dismanteling my cologne 2.8 v6 and now dont know were to put it. I know bit of a dick ed but it came out of a mk 2 granada and there was alot of useless poo under the bonnet. So it got mistaken for just another equipment pipe. please help.

as far as i understand it, there is a mechanical advance to sort it for the correct revs, and a vacuum advance to sort the load (effectively throttle position)

i havent bothered with the vacuum advance on mine cos i couldn't be arsed plumbing it into my new air filter.

Joel P is basically right, the vac advance does as it says on the tin, and advances the ign timing under high vacuum conditions, i.e. low throttle overrun/cruise type conditions. You will lose fuel economy but performance will be fine in terms of power as then the throttle will be wide open and there will be no vacuum so no vac advance anyway!
