splines for type 3 ford box interchangability.

I am struggling to find a front few inches of a ford propshaft or even a full propshaft local to us in goole east yorkshire.
This car is running a mk2 escort 1.3 four speed think it is a type three from memory. you tell me!.
I was thinking what other ford cars share spline sizes etc that will fit these boxes to make sourcing one nearer home a bit easier.
PS if you have anything to help us out and are reasonably local please let us know.

click on the gearbox links here

for info on the different possibilities and what they were fitted to

as it sands in your request, could be anything
type 3 doesn't appear to have been fitted to escorts

edit: type 2 perhaps? apparently fitted to all mk2 escorts except rs/mexico and twin cams.

As far as I can tel Ford only ever used 2 input shaft diameters and splines, 7/8" by 20 splines or 1" by 23 splines.
Your early box will be 7/8" by 20 splines.

Is this of any use to you ?

From Ford Type 3 gearbox and English Diff, from an old Westfield :

Propshaft
Propshaft

Prop End
Prop End

Prop end

Cheers,

Tim.

Thanks for the input it looks as thought the tailshaft splines are the same throughout the majority of Ford cars from the 100es to the sierras etc, so almost anything will do me for the propshaft nose i require.
Thanks for the offer Tim elershaw, i am now chasing a propshaft from just a few miles away over the border in to darkest Lincolnshire, If it fails to materialize as promised, i will be in touch pronto thank you!
I will post my progress either way.

erm, not quite, there's 2 different ones, a 7/8" i think it is, and a 1", guaranteed you'll have the wrong one for whatever prop shaft you get. can you not get to the tail shaft to measure it.
i've only ever come across the 1" ones.
