Please help me identify Pinto Engine numbers

Hi all

Iv been trying to identify my engine number + year

I have looked through loads of posts and have discovered 2 locations for the engine number

On the right hand side, and under the rocker cover?

The thing is the numbers appear to be different? Have i read things incorrectly?

The one under the rocker cover reads

82HM6090GB

The one on the right hand side reads

21030
85HM6015BB

Please could you help me shed a bit of light to identify what these numbers are, And should they be the same?

Once i know wich is the correct number i will send a letter to ford requesting an official letter stating year etc.

Much appreciated

Number is stamped on to a machined face about 1/3 the way up the block on the drivers side, toward the front.

IIRC its about 6-8 characters long.

You'll see the pad on this pic

Between the 2 sets of 4 bolt holes. Cast in numbers below and stamped in on the flat part.

Brilliant!

Cheers thats the engine number sorted! Was covered with a thick layer of horrid red paint.

So engine Number at top stamped in, The number below that Defines the date,

Any idea why the one on the head under the rocker cover is different, is this standard, or could it just be that the head was replaced?

Thanks again

There is only one engine number, stamped once and only on the block. All the others are part numbers, casting numbers, date identifiers, capacity desig, etc. The numbers that you refer to are part numbers I think and as the head casting is a different part to a block casting it has a different number.

as above - all you need is the engine number itself: (which should also be on the V5c)
Pinto Engine Number
Pinto Engine Number

it should start with a 2 letter code which you can look up here:
http://www.burtonpower.com/tuning-guides/tuning-guide-pages/ford-manufacture-dates.html

e.g. my pinto's number starts 'KM' = march 1989
