No more Celicas or MR2's after 2005 !????

Read a blurb on a site that said toyota is stopping production of both these cars in May of 2005...Does anyone know if the 2ZZge engine will make it into anything else?...This engine seemed to have real promise..

just wondering, Fletch

You mean the 1.8l 6-speed Jekyl-and-Hyde screamer (runs like an ordinary Toyota up to 6000 then goes ballistic to 8000rpm)?

Isn't it the same one Lotus use in the Elise/Exige, and Toyota use in the South African-built Corolla GT?

here in the US it's also used in the Scion Xa, Xb, and will be in the Tc. It's also in Toyotas Matrix, and Pontiacs Vibe, I belive that GM is using it in a few other cars too.

Alot of the ricers around here also change the timing shift point down to ablout 4500, really improves acceleration.

From what I hear Toyota are only stopping production/sales of these cars in the States (sorry guys) and only planned to sell them for 5 years in the first place. They will still be available elsewhere (UK, Japan etc). There's a pretty extensive thread on this at www.mr2oc.com.
