Exhaust Question

Still trying to sort out what to do about my noisy exhaust for the IVA. Posted on here some time ago here

I have another exhaust can I may be able to use, it is about18" long and 6" in diameter. If I make a 2 into 1 from the down pipe I could probably fit it, but the can has a straight through pipe and what looks like a mesh down the length of the can and I assume packing around that. Surely that will be even louder than mine at the moment with it being straight through? I'm not sure how these straight through cans work so any info is most welcome

A turbo acts as a silencer by chopping up the pressure pulses emmited from your engine.
A straight through pipe with a perforated tube in the silencer part will have packaging around the perforated tube which absorbs the sound. Think of it as a hose pipe, the water under pressure will escape through the holes in the perforated tube and be absorbed by the packing around it. You can always put more packing around the perforated tube as long as it is possible to remove the end of the can you can also make a db killer to insert into the exhaust. Make a small circular tube to fit into the exhaust fill it with stainless steel scouring pads and close the ends of the tube with wire mesh, insert into exhaust and secure with a screw to stop it flying out of the exhaust when you rev the motor. Then when you have passed the IVA test you can remove the screw to restore full power and noise.

Decibel insert from Car Builder Solutions or Demon Tweeks dropped my very loud exhaust to 96 db
A straight through exhaust silences by absorbsion
