45 Webers "self revving"
Anyone any good at setting up DCOE webers
I bought a Pinto engine with twin 45 DCOE's about 18 months.
This sat in the corner of the workshop until last week,
when a hole in the sump of the engine in my car forced the change.
know the fun has started, I can get it to start by spraying easy start into the chokes,
but then the revs just keep rising and the only way to stop the revs increasing is to turn it off
I took the tops of the carbs off and found this....
am I right in thinking the spindle return mechanism is missing
could this be the cause of my problems..
Any advise gratefully received.
cheers Gavin

Take the carbs off and turn them upside down and remove the little plates held on by 4 screws and have a good look.

First thing to check are always the basic's, so make sure the cold start choke lever is not pulled over on either carb.
Get a torch out and peer into the mouths, are all the butterflies fully closed when the throttle is fully released, do they all open cleanly and
evenly?
If they were previously set up correctly its more lightly looking at the rust that things are not fully returning to the idle position.

Thats where the throttle return spring lives --- if you find the accelerator pump is also foobarred the little roll pin through the
throttle spindle is sheared.

With regards to the internal throttle springs most people (especially racers) remove them. Did both my 40's and 45's from new. They have a
habit of breaking and the bits can jam the throttle open which is not a desirable feature. I fitted external springs to get good pedal feel and never
had a problem.

Soak them in a decent penetrating oil something like PlusGas or if you can find some Deblock from Innotec
