Dyno Run......

Hi all,
Well finally got round to getting the car setup before I go to IVA... I have a few problems to sort out but on to them in a minute... ENgine acheived 170BHP at the flywheel and 145 ibft torue @ about 6500 RPM... For a first go I was pretty happy with it bearing in mind it is the first run the engine has had and I couldn't even get it to idle properly....

Motor is ST170 on throttle bodies with a pretty restrictive exhaust and inlet setup due to the fact that I wanted a single hole in the side panel ....

Anyway now onto the things I have to fix...

1. I have a subaru in tank fuel pump and a non venting cap... I bought a think automotive two way valve which I have confirmed is the correct way round however I am pushing fuel out of the overflow... Talking to Think Automotive the valve can be mounted in any orientation so I mounted it horizontally. I do have the vent tube in the tank a little low so maybe fuel can go up there however I didn't think it should come out... After runnig the car for a few minutes and I release the cap the tank seems to be pressurised. So any ideas on this one....

2. The second is that I have blocked off the crank case breather (I am running scavenge only dry sump) Anyone know if there is any problem with this? Engine tuner said o.k. if the scavenge pump can pull a vacuum. I seem to get planty of oil back to teh tank.

3. I vent the cambox cover to a catch tank but I have fitted a one way valve flow out of the cam box into the catch tank. If the valve necessary? on the rolling road the guys suggested not necessary.

4. Dry sump tank is too small I kept filling the catch tank when the engine was running hard.. I only have about 3 litre capacity... Anyone recommend someone who could make me a bespoke tank?

5. I am running a DTA S60 and have an LC1 wide band sensor.. We had trouble getting the lambda sensor to control AFR.. the feeling was that the response was too slow... Anyone used the LC1 to control AFR on a DTA? At the moment the Lambda sensor is turned off.

A great day with the guys at the rolling road and I was so pleased that I didn't destroy the engine so onwards we go to fix the problems.. and get to IVA...

I will post a video on you tube later and send the link....

you shouldn't use a wideband to control afr it will only end in tears when the sensor finally fails and you don't realise. you should only use it as safety system to retard ignition if the engine goes lean. if you want to run to a specific afr then the best solution is a maf sensor so you know how much air is going into the engine this allows the ecu to calculate the required fuel on the fly.

So what happens when the MAF croaks (as they invariably do) and you are running open loop?
